2019-2020 Driver's Education

UPDATE 6-9-20
Beginning Monday, June 15, Driver's Education will resume. The morning and afternoon sessions will still be held at their scheduled time. Office hours will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 am. Make-up work will need to be done during that time with Mr. Shawn McGuireby appointment. Classes will be held Monday – Thursday and will run for four weeks, ending on July 10.

Virtual students will be driving June 15th through the 26th.

UPDATE 5-28-20
Due to recent events, USD 490 will be rescheduling the 2020 Driver’s Education sessions. Your student’s health and well-being are the number one priority as we prepare and adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines in a classroom setting. Please note that the course is not canceled just postponed to a future date this summer. A decision to resume Driver's Education will be made next week.

We are pleased to let you know that Driver’s Education courses will be offered to eligible students again this year. The course has two requirements, classroom coursework and driving. Students may choose from the following options:

OPTION 1 (VIRTUAL COURSEWORK – SUMMER DRIVING BY APPOINTMENT)
Students will be able to complete coursework requirements on-line with the exception of the Final Exam, which must be taken with supervision. Students selecting this option will be able to begin course work on April 6th. The instructor will schedule tests as the modules are completed. Students will need to report to EHS at the scheduled test time. Virtual coursework must be completed by May 16th.

Driving will be scheduled by the instructor from June 1st – June 25th in groups of three.

Students wishing to select this option must register on the District homepage, Parents tab and select Driver’s Education before March 30th. The class will be filled by age prioritization and receipt of fees. Students must have access to a computer and internet. Students will be notified of placement before April 6th. This course is limited to 25 students.

Course Fee: $100 (USD 490 Students)
$50 (USD 490 Students Qualified for 2019-20 Reduced Price Meals)
$0 (USD 490 Students Qualified for 2019-20 Free Meals)
$350 (Out-of-District Students)


OPTION 2 (SUMMER COURSEWORK – SUMMER DRIVING BY APPOINTMENT)
Students selecting this option will attend class from 8:30-11 a.m. or 12-2:30 p.m., June 1st – 25th, Monday through Thursday at EHS. Driving will be scheduled by the instructor from June 1st – July 15th in groups of three. Students wishing to select this option must register on the District homepage, Parents tab and select Driver’s Education before May 4th. The class will be filled by age prioritization and receipt of fees. Enrollment is limited to two classes of 25 students each. Students will be notified of placement before May 11th.

Course Fee: $100 (USD 490 Students)
$50 (USD 490 Students Qualified for 2019-20 Reduced Price Meals)
$0 (USD 490 Students Qualified for 2019-20 Free Meals)
$350 (Out-of-District Students)

If your student is eligible by Kansas Law to participate in Driver’s Education, including being age 14 or older, and you wish to have them enroll in one of these options, please contact the EHS Office at your earliest convenience. After registration a mandatory meeting with parents will be scheduled. Space is limited and will be filled first with USD 490 students.
