USD 490 Stuffs the Truck with food for the Salvation Army
On November 28, USD 490, Walmart and the Salvation Army partnered for the Stuff the Truck annual district service event. Nearly 2,000 food items and toys were donated by USD 490 families this year.
USD 490 schools collected food, toys and coats during the week leading up to the event and provided musical entertainment throughout the day. The Salvation Army provided a list of food items most needed this holiday season, and each grade level was assigned to one of those items.
Various choir, band, orchestra and cheer groups from El Dorado schools braved the chilly weather to promote a spirit of giving by delivering their school’s donations and performing songs for the community. The Salvation Army provided hot chocolate to student performers.
“Whether it is a $.69 can of soup or singing a carol, the importance of looking beyond your own front door and thinking of others is a critical character component,” said Sue Givens, USD 490 Superintendent.
Parents and other members of the community stopped to listen and show their support during the performances. Many spectators went inside and purchased toys or food to donate after listening to a few songs.
“It is important to know that you can give something, anything, to make improvements for others,” said Givens.
This annual service project is a way to say thank you and give back to a community that so freely donates gifts of time, talent, or tangible items to our schools. USD 490 is proud our generous community is #partofthepride.
