Three south-central Kansas children are winners in the 2019 poster contest for Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day.
The south-central Kansas winners, in three age categories, are: Avery Hutson, 5, of El Dorado; Cade Brown, 9, of Andale; and Von Woleslagel, 12, of Hutchinson. Besides being one of three regional winners, Von also is a statewide winner.
Avery is the daughter of Samantha and Dylon Hutson and attends Skelly Elementary School in El Dorado; Cade is the son of Josh and Abby Brown and attends Andale Elementary School; and Von is the son of Leann and Mark Woleslagel and attends Prairie Hills Middle School.
Avery received a bicycle from the Kansas Turnpike Authority and a helmet donated by Safe Kids Kansas during a presentation at Skelly on November 1. The prizes were presented by the Kansas Department of Transportation and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
As a statewide winner, Von will also receive a Kindle Fire tablet from KTA, a $50 gift card from the Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association of Kansas and movie passes from AAA Kansas. Also, his school, class or booster club will receive $200.
A total of 434 kids across Kansas ages 5 to 13 took the time to think about safety and participated in the contest.
