The USD 490 Board of Education welcomed Roger Smith as a new board member on Sept. 14.
Smith has lived and worked in El Dorado for nearly 30 years. He and his wife, Debbie, have a daughter and a son. Their daughter is Leeann Morris, an EHS alum and fourth grade teacher at Blackmore Elementary. Smith also has two grandchildren that attend USD 490 schools.
As an active member of the community, Smith decided to join the school board to help make a difference and ensure success in the school district.
“I believe in the importance of making sure every child receives a quality education to be successful and I would like to be part of the decision-making process,” Smith said.
Relationships are Smith’s focus as a new board member. He wants to help staff, students, parents, and the community strengthen their relationships because he realizes that those connections are instrumental in maintaining a healthy school district.
“We have a great school district along with an amazing community, and I want to continue to see those relationships grow,” Smith said.
Smith is also appreciative of USD 490 staff and all of the tremendous work they have put into preparing for the this school year.
“Thank you,” Smith said. “Your hard work and dedication do not go unnoticed!”
Roger Smith’s appointment filled the vacancy created by the passing of long-time board member Vicki Coash. The other USD 490 board members are: Tom Storrer-BOE President, Heather Nichols-BOE Vice President, Rob Lane, Haley Remsberg, Sharon Waugh, and Norm Wilks.
