EMS sixth grade student Jeffrey Hamm was selected as a state winner of the Kansas State Department of Transportation's 2018 "Put the Brakes on Fatalities" poster contest.
Representatives from KDOT and the Kansas Highway Patrol will visit EMS on October 24 to present Hamm with a large poster of his artwork, a bicycle donated by the Kansas Turnpike Authority, and a helmet donated by Sake Kids Kansas.
There were 836 submissions from kids ages 5 to 13 in 6 regions across Kansas. Only the top three posters were chosen from each of those six regions. Hamm was one of only 18 kids from across the state to be selected as a state winner. Three posters were chosen from the state winners to continue to the national competition.
Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day is a nationwide effort to increase roadway safety and reduce all traffic fatalities.
