EHS announces graduation plans

EHS Principal Bruce Lolling and Senior Class Vice President Nate Walker created a video to share the Class of 2020 graduation plans.

Senior Awards Ceremony
On May 16, at 7:00 p.m., the senior awards will be live-streamed via YouTube from the EHS auditorium. A link to the live stream will be emailed to EHS seniors and their parents prior to the event. Mr. Lolling, Mr. Vang, Mrs. Sampoll, and Ms. Balderas will emcee the event.

The senior awards stream will include:

  • Pre-recorded speeches from student leaders
  • Recognition of school accomplishments
    • Honor cords and medals
    • Activity cords (FCCLA and DECA)
  • Recognition of accomplishments outside of school
    • Military honors
    • Scholarships/Grants

Diploma Presentations
Diploma presentations have been tentatively scheduled for May 18-20. These dates will be dependent upon Governor Kelly advancing the state to Phase II of the Ad Astra reopening plan, which will be no earlier than May 18.

Students will receive an email asking them to select a time slot (which are divided into 10 minute increments) between 1:00 and 8:00 p.m. on May 18 or May 20, or between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on May 19.

They can invite up to five family members to join them for an individual diploma presentation. Students and their families will enter through the "busses only" lane and will be directed by EHS staff on where to park. They will enter the building at entrance D (near the choir room).

One of the invited guests will stand on the stage to hand the diploma and award certificates to the graduate as they cross the stage while an administrator reads their name.

There will be a backdrop and a photographer in the auditorium to help commemorate the occasion. The graduate will then exit through the south door, where they can pick up their diploma cover before exiting the building.

Administration requests that families arrive in no more than two cars due to limited parking spaces and tight time constraints.

Virtual Graduation Ceremony
Assuming Phase II begins May 18, Principal Lolling plans to have a Virtual Graduation video ready by May 22. A YouTube link will be sent to parents and students, and it will be shared on social media.

This video will include a welcome from Principal Lolling, student speeches, the senior video, the diploma presentations, and senior PowerPoint.

Traditional Graduation Ceremony
On July 11, there will be a traditional graduation ceremony in the EHS gym. Rehearsal will be at 10:00 a.m., and any student who wishes to participate in the traditional ceremony must attend the rehearsal.

The ceremony will be at 7:00 p.m. and will include a processional, welcome from EHS Senior Class President Blake Wiebe, a guest speaker, recognition of students, tassel move and cap toss, and recessional. Students will receive the after grad souvenir since they will have already received their diplomas.

An after grad party will be thrown following the ceremony.

EHS administrators request that students or their parents email Julie Balderas (jebalderas@eldoradoschools.org) a list of all scholarships, awards, grants, military enlistments, etc. that have been offered and accepted, especially ones that are not affiliated with USD 490, so they can be included in the recognition announcements and ceremonies.

Here is the YouTube video explaining the plans:
