EHS and EMS recognized as Apple Distinguished Schools
El Dorado High School and El Dorado Middle School are pleased to announce that they have been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2019–2022 for their iPad and laptop initiatives, which provide students with digital tools that help them engage in learning.
Apple Distinguished Schools are centers of innovation, leadership, and educational excellence that use Apple technology to inspire creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking. They showcase innovative uses of technology in learning, teaching, and the school environment and have documented results of academic accomplishment.
“We are very excited that both EHS and EMS were once again recognized for the innovative teaching that is taking place in those buildings,” Executive Director of Technology Doug Jensen said. “This will provide additional resources and opportunities for our teachers and administration to connect with other Apple Distinguished Schools across the country.”
The selection of EHS and EMS as Apple Distinguished Schools recognizes their success as innovative and compelling learning environments that engage students and provide tangible evidence of academic accomplishment.
Some of the ways students are using technology to enhance learning include the use of 3D printers to bring 2D concepts to life, using iPads to create audio book talks or control Sphero SPRK robotic balls, participate in virtual field trips, design and produce daily video news programs, learn basic welding techniques with a virtual welder, and a plethora of apps and programs to design and create graphics, charts, and digital content for any class or project.
These tools increase student engagement and allow them to take ownership of their learning by providing a means to delve deeper into topics that interest them and bring abstract concepts to life.
