District moving to onsite instruction after Labor Day

The USD 490 Gating Criteria Committee has met and gone over the numbers for our district. We are happy to announce that the district will move back to onsite instruction beginning Tuesday, September 8. Families who chose the in-person option for their students can begin sending them every day. Families who chose Hybrid or Remote options, can continue with those choices, and will not be affected by this decision.

The Gating Criteria Committee plans to meet weekly, or more often if it becomes necessary, to go over key components of the KSDE Gating Criteria and will use that data to determine which colored column of the gating criteria we are currently in. This will determine whether the district is considered onsite, hybrid, or remote.

Parents will always have the option to choose an option that is more restrictive than the district's current model, but will not be able to choose one that is less restrictive. For example, if the district is in hybrid, parents could still choose to have their students learn remotely, but they could not choose completely onsite. If the district is in remote, all students would be remote.

It is important to note that while we want to give parents as much notice as possible of any changes to the district learning model, there may be instances where we receive a call from the health department that requires us to move an individual classroom, building, or the entire district to a remote format for the following day. Please know that we will pass that information on as quickly as possible so you can make any necessary arrangements.

Changes have been coming fast and furious as we've pioneered reopening schools in our area. Thank you all for your resilience and patience as we've worked to identify which plans are working well, and areas where we can improve to make the new protocols easier on students, staff, and families. Communication is a key component to a healthy school system and we appreciate your feedback as we work through this together.

We are grateful to have you as #PartofthePride!
