Congressman Dr. Roger Marshall, EHS class of 1978, visited El Dorado High School on September 6.
Marshall was elected in 2016 to represent the 1st congressional district of Kansas. He is also the Dean of Kansas' House Delegation and serves on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology.
In preparation to run for Senate, Marshall toured 105 counties in Kansas, ending in his home town of El Dorado.
Senior Class President Blake Wiebe and National Honors Society President Mallory Parsons led Marshall on a tour of the high school. They discussed which classes students could take for dual college credit, Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses, and technology that supports student learning.
In the gym, Marshall pointed out the sports banners and wall plaques that highlighted teams he was part of during his high school days. Marshall's graduating class partnered with the class of 1966 to refinish the gym floor a few years ago. He told his guides that EHS was one of the first high schools in the area to have its own swimming pool.
"I have great memories of my time here," Marshall said.
As students highlighted various parts of the building and its features, Marshall described the similarities and differences between the present and how he remembered his alma mater.
