Blackmore fifth grade students met Victoria J. Coe, the author of their One School, One Book novel via Zoom on January 26.
The One School, One Book project was initiated by the school's media specialist, Luana Lewis. In an effort to make reading a fun family activity, each student was sent home with a copy of the same novel Fenway and Hattie and the Evil Bunny Gang.
Each book included a bookmark indicating which chapters families should read each week, so the whole school would essentially be reading the book together. At the end of each week, students answered two questions from the week's chapters and all of the students who answered them correctly were able to participate in a variety of themed activities as a reward.
Before meeting the author and asking questions, the fifth grade classes were able to participate in four webinar sessions she provided to work on writing skills.
The special writing sessions and author meet and greet were made possible thanks to PIE funding Ms. Lewis' grant request.
