Some important reminders as we quickly approach the end of the school year:
During the first week of May the cookie dough from our fundraiser will be delivered to the school for pick-up. We will send out notes about location and time to pick up.
Play days are scheduled for the students during the last week school is in session. Washington students will go swimming at the city pool and the students at Skelly will have time to play at the water park, and enjoy games and activities around the school.
On May 23rd we will have an awards assembly for both schools: Washington’s assembly will start at 8:30 am; Skelly’s assembly starts at 10:00 am. Parents are welcome to come! ~ Mr. Ruff, Principal
Ian Taft — Student of the MonthWashington's Student of the Month is fifth grader Ian Taft. Ian is a hard-working, polite student that always makes sure his work is finished on time. He has a great attitude and gets along with everyone. He sets a great example for the younger students. He is the first one to offer a helping hand to his classmates or his teachers. Ian's favorite subject is math. In his spare time he likes to play video games or read books about snakes. Ian says he really liked 5th grade because it had a lot harder work! Congratulations Ian!
Message from Food Service Department
Students will not be allowed to charge school meals during the month of May. If a student does not have enough money for lunch in their account, they will be provided with a cheese sandwich, until money is available in the account to pay for lunch.
Reminder-Last Day of School
The last day of school is Wed., May 23. It is also a 2 hour early release day. Washington will have their awards assembly on Wed. morning at 8:30am and Skelly will have their awards assembly on Wed. morning at 10:00 a.m.
Box Tops, Labels for Education, etc.
All of the classrooms at Skelly and Washington have earned their pizza party for collecting 500 box tops for their class. Once a class collects 1000 box tops, they will receive a pop and popcorn party.
Three classes at Washington and one class at Skelly have earned their popcorn & pop parties. Box tops were mailed off in the fall and PTO received its first check for the year for $1290.90. At this time, the total collected for the year is $2,273.00.
Thank you parents for sending in the caps from Coke bottles, and the code numbers from inside the 12 packs and cases of Coca Cola cans.
Labels for Education, on the Campbell’s soup cans, must have the whole piece that is shown above. We must have the UPC bar attached with the Labels for Education 1 point part. It has perforated lines on the label showing where to cut it out. Free class supplies have been ordered from Campbell’s. We have 15,000 points so far this year with Campbell’s.
Please keep saving box tops, Campbell labels, caps and code numbers from Coca Cola bottles over the summer!!!
Keep those labels and box tops coming in. We are turning trash into cash! Thank you for doing a great job this year! Thank you also to Jonetta Miller, our coordinator, for a lot of time consuming work!
Washington Library News
It is hard to believe, but the end of school is approaching quickly. As always, the Washington Library will need to collect all of the student library books for inventory. This year we will also pack all of the library materials in boxes for the new school. Please help us by making sure your student has all library books returned by MAY 11th. If your child has lost or damaged a book please help them search your home or send a check for $15.00 to replace the book. If you pay for a book and you find it over the summer you can always return it in good condition for a refund.
The classes have a contest to see which three classes can return all of their books first on May 11th. Those classes with a clean library record will receive a treat from Mrs. Wagner for getting their books in promptly.
I have enjoyed having your students for the past years at Washington. Next year I will be the librarian at Grandview Elementary and Mrs. Judy George will be the librarian at the new Skelly school.
Remember keep your student reading over the summer!
—Mrs. Nancy Wagner
Keep On Learning
Summer is almost here! As a parent, you can help continue your children’s
educational progress over these vacation months. Try these ideas with your
kids.
1. READ! READ! READ! It doesn’t have to be a book. Have your child practice
reading cereal boxes, canned goods, etc. Take advantage of our own public
library.
2. JOIN IN THE FUN! Take early morning walks or ride bikes together.
Make a game out of identifying flowers, trees, birds, etc.
3. When WATCHING TV, encourage critical thinking skills. Talk about
the shows your child views.
4. Have a time out QUIET TIME daily for things that can be done alone,
such as reading, drawing, coloring, or simple crafts.
Take the time to enjoy your children during their summer vacation months.
The time you have with them is both precious and fleeting!
