EMS named 2018 KAMSA Middle School of the Year

     El Dorado Middle School was named a Kansas Association of Middle School Administrators 2018 Middle School of the Year. They will be recognized at a ceremony on May 4.
     EMS was named a KAMSA Middle School of the Year Finalist for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 school years.

USD 490 receives highest KSDE IDEA endorsement

     USD 490 has received a 2018 IDEA highest level of achievement endorsement endorsement from the Kansas Department of Education for the services they provide to youth with disabilities in our district. USD 490 partners with the Butler County Special Education Interlocal to provide those services.

EHS students inducted into National Honor Society

     Several El Dorado High School students were inducted into the National Honor Society during the 2018 Induction Ceremony on April 23. House of Representative member Mary Martha Good was the guest speaker.
     The 2018 inductees were Brittan Towner, Jake Johnson, Karley Faudere, Mallory Parsons, Dalton King, Erica Tipton, Kaleb Manke, Jarin Koehler, Jackson Schell, Nalea Payton, Kallie Hutchison, Erin Wranowsky, Noah Crawford, Cameron Clausing, Rio Flaharty, and Kelsi McLaren.

EMS student wins state Aviation Art Contest

     El Dorado Middle School student Ashlynn Gomez won first place for her age division in the 2018 Art Aviation Contest sponsored by the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Division of Aviation.

EHS students participate in community service event

     On April 9, EHS staff and students participated in community service projects throughout El Dorado.
     The community service event was planned in conjunction with the morning’s annual Future’s Fair where community members visited with students about local businesses and a variety of professions. Students were able to choose three careers they wanted to learn more about.

EMS student donates birthday money to veterans

     EMS student Gunner Owens donated $200 of his birthday money to veterans through K94Heroes and Midwest Battle Buddies after a seeing a presentation by the groups during a school assembly on April 20.

District Highlights

EHS students qualify for KSHSAA state music festival

     El Dorado High School participated in the KSHSAA Regional Music Festival on Saturday, April 14 at Goddard-Eisenhower High School. Out of twenty-seven EHS events that day, thirteen qualified for KSHSAA State Music Festival on Saturday, April 28, at Larned High School by earning a First-Division, or "Outstanding" rating.

     El Dorado Middle School has been selected to receive The Lion King Experience Grant through Music Theater International.

EMS students serve as legislative pages

     Four EMS eighth grade students served as legislative pages on March 29.
     Logan Foulkes, Ethan Manke, Shanycia Murray, and Ashlyn Luna worked with House Representative Mary Martha Good. They learned about the daily work of a legislator and how bills are formed, altered, and eventually introduced to the floor or discarded.

EHS bowler named 2nd Team All-State

     EHS student Veronica Fisher was named 2nd Team All-State in bowling.

New Board of Education members complete KASB training

     New board of education members Heather Nichols and Sharon Waugh recently completed the Foundations of Boardsmanship training offered by the Kansas Association of School Boards.
