EHS students graduate Youth Leadership Butler program
Ricki Burks and Seth Klayson are the two EHS graduates of the 2017 Youth Leadership Butler program.

Youth Leadership Butler began in 1993. It was the first program of its kind in the state, and has paved the way for other state and national youth leadership programs.

The program exists to raise awareness of existing opportunities for students to have a meaningful impact on their communities through service and leadership.

The program is open to any high school junior attending a public school or home schooled in Butler County.

Participants must submit an application to be considered for the program. Once accepted, they are expected to attend every session. They meet on Monday evenings from September through October and are expected to participate in the class project. The curriculum is customized around current issues identified by applicants each year.

Youth Leadership Butler is funded by sponsorships from eight of the nine public elementary schools in Butler County, a grant through the special liquor tax from the City of Augusta, and the Leadership Butler Children’s fund through the Central Kansas Community Foundation-Butler County.
