A Note from the Principal
Where has the first half of the school year gone? Make sure to stay warm and enjoy the time with your children over the holiday break! It has been a very busy first semester for us here at Washington and Skelly Elementary.
We are looking forward to the spring semester. We will be continuing the rewarding work that we started this fall and continue to prepare all students for the state assessments. The assessments begin in February and continue into the first of April. We are looking forward to showing what our students know and what they have learned.
Enjoy your holiday break and we look forward to seeing everyone on January 5th. —Mr. Stan Ruff, Principal
David Williams — Student of the Month
The student of the month is David Williams from Miss Gustafson’s fifth grade class at Washington Elementary. He is the son of Frank and Rusty Williams. David is HONEST, always puts others first, and is willing to help in the classroom. In class he hands in complete work, remembers his manners, is not disruptive, and makes his classmates and teacher smile. One of the things David likes to do in his free time is read. He enjoys playing Chess and his favorite subject is P.E. and art. David wants to be a Marine Biologist when he grows up. We are delighted to have him in our classroom and at our school!
Label, Box Tops, Coke Rewards Programs
Hockey/Soccer nets have been ordered and received for PE classes from the “My Coke Rewards” program. Please send in the caps from Coke bottles, or the code numbers from inside the 12 pack and cases of Coca Cola cans.
Labels for Education, on the Campbell’s soup cans, must have the whole piece that is shown above. We must have the UPC bar attached with the Labels for Education 1-point part. It has perforation lines on the label showing where to cut it out.
Please keep those Box Tops, Campbell's labels, Sunny D labels, and MycokeRewards coming in!
Pizza Hut Fundraiser
Pizza Hut in both El Dorado locations are going to help raise money for our schools. Bring in the coupon that is attached to this newsletter to Pizza Hut on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, between 4:00pm and 8:00pm, and SE/WE will receive 20% of the pizza sale. This pertains to dine in and carry out sales. The West Pizza Hut will honor the coupon and give us the 20% of the pizza every Tuesday, and the North Pizza Hut will only honor the coupons on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. Please remember to take your coupon with you when you pick up your pizza..
Canned Food Drive
Skelly and Washington Schools will sponsor a food collection for the Salvation Army as a community project. The collection will be held Jan 9th – Jan 20th. We have the food drive in January to help replenish items that were used during the busy month of December. Food items may be taken to the classrooms each day. The food should be canned or boxed items. NO GLASS PLEASE! Canned meats, fruits, juices, vegetables, macaroni and cheese, meat helpers, rice or noodle mixes and cereal or oatmeal are items that can especially be used. Any items that can be donated will be greatly appreciated. Please join our schools in helping us help others.
Lunch for Late Students
The lunch ladies have requested that if your child is going to be late coming to school, that you please call the school by 8:15, to let them know that your child will be here and to request a hot lunch for them. If your child is late, and we have not received a phone call to order a hot lunch, you are asked to bring your child to school with a sack lunch or your child will receive a cheese sandwich in place of a hot lunch. It is too difficult to try to order the correct number of hot lunches needed each day without the parents calling in. Your help in this matter will be greatly appreciated. Adults planning to eat lunch at school should call by 8:15 to reserve their lunch on that day also.
Students eating breakfast should arrive before 7:45. Students arriving after 7:45 will not be able to eat school breakfast. This includes students that come in tardy.
