Elem. Band/Orchestra Concert Jan. 27, 7 PM @ EMS
Band and Orchestra students will travel to the high school on the afternoon of the program for rehearsal on the stage. This is a city wide event. There will be more information to come after Christmas break from Mr. Westwood and Mr. Monroe.
Community Project
Washington and Skelly Schools will sponsor a food collection for the Salvation Army as a community project. The collection will be held Jan. 12th through Jan. 23rd.  Food items may be taken to the classrooms each day. Selected students will deliver the items on the afternoon of Jan. 23rd. The food should be canned or boxed items. NO GLASS, PLEASE. Canned meats, fruits, juices, vegetables, macaroni and cheese, meat helpers, rice or noodle mixes and cereal or oatmeal are items that can especially be used. Any items will be greatly appreciated. Please join our schools in helping us help others.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Thanks to all parents for attending parent teacher conferences. It is important for parents and teachers to stay in touch with each other, so that together, we can give your child the best education we can. We had an outstanding turnout for conferences!

What Every Parent Should Know About Testing
•    Taking tests will be a part of your child’s entire life. Tests are used not only in school but also in the workplace. They can also be required for getting jobs, obtaining a driver’s license, or qualifying for a competitive event, hobby or recreational activity.
•    Tests are here to stay. As a parent, you have the right to know about the tests your child will take. And you can help your child by understanding what they attempt to measure and how test results are used.
•    Your attitude about tests is also important. Your child will be more comfortable taking tests and possibly even do better on them if you help him or her to see tests not as barriers or problems, but as opportunities.
•    It’s important to think about testing as an ongoing part of your child’s education. But tests alone don’t give a complete picture of your child’s knowledge or ability to learn. For tests to be used properly, teachers, schools, parents, and children need to work together.
•    Tests should be integrated into the curriculum, rather than driving it from the outside. You should be aware of potential test bias, because it is possible for questions on classroom or standardized tests to be skewed in favor of one gender or racial group. You want to be sure that your school has screening procedures and uses standardized tests from companies that have such procedures for identifying and eliminating bias.
•    Tests today may not be like the tests you took when you were in school. New forms of tests and other assessments are already in use. Even more changes will be coming in the years ahead. We want you to be involved in the testing process to help your child succeed at school.
