SO . . . HOW ARE WE REALLY DOING AS PARENTS? As we begin 2012, we are provided with opportunities to start anew with our parenting skills. I wonder how the dynamics of our families might be improved this year if we focused on the following three areas: • SHOW INTEREST - Check homework, talk about what’s happening at school, and find time to see your children’s teachers occasionally. • COMMUNICATE – If there’s a single golden rule for parents, it’s this: Talk and listen to your children. • ASSIGN KID-SIZED CHORES – Elementary kids, for the most part, love to help. However, one needs to make sure that chores fit each child’s capabilities. Nothing makes a child lose interest faster than having to do something too difficult, or too easy. Our kids are a gift; priceless in value. They deserve our very best! Happy New Year! Jan Weber, LPC Skelly/Washington Counselor
