The Spelling Bee is Coming!
What’s all the BUZZ about? The Spelling Bee is coming!
Calling all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade spellers. Have you dreamed of representing Grandview Elementary at the Butler County Spelling Bee? Now is your chance. Each 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classroom will be conducting a spelling bee before Christmas.
If you are interested in extra help to study for this, the following three sites may be of help to you. First, at www.myspellit.com students can see the lists of words divided by language of origin. The site allows students to click on a word to hear its pronunciation and see its meaning. This site also gives spelling tips for words based on their language of origin. Next, students can look at www.spellingbee.com. It is the official website of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Students can take practice quizzes after they have studied a language of origin list. One more site that is just plain fun for all spellers is www.spellingcity.com. On this site, you can enter a list of words to learn, play games with those words, and take a computerized quiz over those words.
Grandview’s Spelling Bee will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. If you have any questions before then, you can contact Mrs. Shum or the school office at 322-4830.
