Student Council

The EMS Student Council wanted to participate in the toy drive that was being held on December 3rd, but there was a dilemma. We had asked for canned goods the week prior for the Thanksgiving food drive and we had asked students to bring money for the Pennies by the Pound United Way drive two weeks prior to that. We were afraid we had "tapped out" out student population. So, the Student Council decided to sell candy canes the Monday and Tuesday before the toy drive. They sold "Canes for Kids" for 25 cents apiece, for two days. They were able to raise over $250 dollars! We then took the kids to Wal-Mart on Wednesday, during the toy drive and went shopping. We were able to purchase 61 toys for the boys and girls of El Dorado! Our Stuco kids appreciated the whole process. They thoroughly enjoyed the art of giving to others and they were so proud of their accomplishment. They truly got to experience the real meaning of the Holiday Season!

Our cookie sales have been moved back to the spring due to some facility issues, more news and dates to follow later. We just finished watching the movie “Rain Man” and are going on November 17 to meet Kim Peek, the man the movie is based around. Kim Peek can give you a calendar from 1 AD to 3000 AD. It takes him about six seconds to tell you any calendar date. It takes the computer 38-52 seconds to verify it. Kim Peek knows all the area codes, zip codes, and roads in the United States. He knows the history of every state and country. He also knows all of the Shakespeare plays. In November COF’s will begin learning our parts for the variety show that will be held January 17th. Be sure to mark your calendar for our show.
