USD 490 schools receive wellness stipend for EWOW participation
Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital presented a check for $288 to three USD 490 schools on March 7 for their participation in the EWOW program in 2017. Skelly and EMS have completed the program.
The money will be spent on wellness in the school buildings to continue the work begun by the EWOW group to encourage healthy choices and wellness education for both staff and students.
The staff members who participated in the EWOW partnership with the YMCA and hospital noticed significant health benefits. The pre- and post-program screenings showed that staff members lost weight, reduced their systolic blood pressure, reduced glucose levels, cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, and A1C. HDL levels (the good one) increased in those who participated.
