EHS student named Distringuised Finalist in Spirit of Community Awards
EHS senior Callie Carter was named a Distinguished Finalist in the 2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards in Kansas and also received a Volunteer Service Award.
Carter led a collection drive that provided diapers, clothes, formula, and other baby items for thousands of families affected by Hurricane Harvey. Moved by the images she saw coming out of Texas - and knowing how many diapers her newborn nephew required every day - Callie solicited corporate and community support and conducted media interviews to spread awareness of her drive.
Based on the number of volunteer hours, Carter also qualified for the President's Volunteer Service Award. This award recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country. She received a certificate and a letter from President Donald J. Trump to commemorate the Volunteer Service Award.
